GENERATOR SET protection relays are used in both manual and automatic transfer panels to monitor components of the generator itself, like the battery, and the quality of energy being supplied.

More sophisticated systems will use reverse current detection, 70RPR, and synchronizing check relays which monitor two AC supplies for correct voltage, frequency and phase angle (70SCRD & 70SCRL).
